Why you’ll love this recipe

  • Bursting with flavor! Strawberry puree delivers a vibrant burst of sweet and tangy flavors, making it a delightful addition to desserts, beverages, and even savory dishes.
  • Versatile. You can use strawberry puree to enhance other recipes, such as toppings for your pancakes, waffles, or yogurt, a filling for cakes or pastries, blending into smoothies or cocktails, and even as a sauce for savory dishes or salads.
  • Nutrient-rich. Strawberries are rich in essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, offering potential health benefits such as improved immune function, heart health, and skin health.
  • Easy to prepare. Making strawberry puree is a breeze.

Ingredients needed

  • Fresh strawberries. The star ingredient that provides the vibrant flavor and natural sweetness to the puree.
  • Sweetener (optional). Adding an additional sweetener like sugar or maple syrup will enhance the sweetness of the puree, especially if the strawberries are not fully ripe when used.
  • Lemon juice (optional). A squeeze of lemon juice can help balance the flavors and bring out the natural brightness of the strawberries. It adds a subtle tanginess that enhances the overall taste of the puree.

How to make strawberry puree

Step 1 – Prepare the strawberries. Rinse the strawberries thoroughly under cold water, then remove the stems and hulls. Slice the strawberries in half.

Step 2 – Blend the ingredients. Place the sliced strawberries into a blender or food processor. Add a tablespoon of maple syrup, to enhance the sweetness. Adjust the amount based on your preference and the natural sweetness of the strawberries. For a hint of tanginess, squeeze in a teaspoon of lemon juice. This step is optional but adds a refreshing element to the puree. Blend the ingredients until smooth and creamy. If needed, pause and scrape down the sides of the blender to ensure all the strawberries are fully incorporated.

Step 3 – Taste check. Taste the puree and adjust the sweetness or acidity if desired, adding more sweetener or lemon juice accordingly. If the consistency is too thick, you can thin the puree by adding a splash of water or fruit juice and blending again.

Once the desired consistency has been reached, transfer the puree to an airtight jar and enjoy!

Tips to make the best recipe

    • Choose ripe and flavorful strawberries. Select fresh strawberries that are fully ripe, as they will provide the best flavor and natural sweetness. Look for strawberries that are bright in color, fragrant, and have a firm texture.
    • Blend until smooth. To achieve a smooth and velvety texture, blend the strawberries until they are completely pureed. This ensures a consistent texture and optimal flavor throughout the puree.
    • Strain for a smoother texture (optional). If you prefer a silky-smooth texture without any seeds or pulp, you can strain the strawberry puree after blending. Simply pour the puree through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth, pressing gently to extract the liquid while leaving behind any solids. This is particularly useful if you plan to create a sauce or glaze.

    Storage instructions

To store: Transfer the puree to a clean and airtight container or jar with a secure lid. Place the container in the refrigerator and store for up to 3-4 days. It is important to ensure the container is tightly sealed to prevent any air exposure that can affect the freshness of the puree. Before using any leftover puree, give it a quick stir to redistribute any settled solids and ensure consistency.

To freeze: If you want to extend the shelf life, you can also freeze the puree in freezer-safe containers or ice cube trays for up to 3 months. Thaw frozen strawberry puree in the refrigerator before use.

    Frequently asked questions

Can I use frozen strawberries instead of fresh ones?

Yes, you can use frozen strawberries to make puree. However, keep in mind that frozen strawberries may have a slightly different texture and water content compared to fresh ones. Thaw the frozen strawberries before blending, and adjust the sweetness and consistency as needed.

How can I make a thicker puree?

If you prefer a thicker consistency, reduce the added liquid (such as water or juice) during blending. You can also let the puree chill in the refrigerator for a while, as it will naturally thicken over time.

Can I use the strawberry puree in baking?

Yes, strawberry puree can be used in baking. It can add moisture and natural flavor to cakes, muffins, and other baked goods. Adjust the recipe accordingly, considering the additional liquid content from the puree.
